Organ of the church of
Heilig Sakrament in Dillingen

Organ in the banquet hall
in Köln-Gürzenich

Organ after its installation in the
Saardom church in Dillingen
The catholic parish of Heilig Sakrament in Dillingen had been looking for a solution to the problems they had with their organ for the longest time. The electronium they had bought in 1974 was very prone to error and could not satisfy the musical requirements of the parish. For financial reasons, a new organ for the relatively large church was out of the question. As chance would have it, representatives of the parish came to know that the former organ of the banquet hall in Köln-Gürzenich was up for sale. Our company was asked to check if that instrument could actually be fitted into the Saardom church in Dillingen.

People asked us many questions like: Can you "transplant" such an organ at all ? Will the scales still fit at the new location ? Does it make sense to reuse the electro-pneumatic conical windchest ?

In general, it is true that anytime you contemplate the relocation of an organ, you must thoroughly check and precisely measure the specific details of the instrument. Another decisive factor is the acoustics in the organ’s future home. Only if all these parameters are compatible can you harmoniously synthesize the architecture and the sound or the organ.
After the existing substance had been generally approved, we worked out a design concept and presented it to the parish. The concept contained the following items:

• new design of the organ front in agreement with the neo-romanic architectural style of the church interior

• maintaining a palpable "communication in style" between the church interior and the organ

• relocating the existing conical windchests, considering both sound and design

• complete renewal of the wind section

• reworking the existing organ front pipes

• further graduating single registers or modifying the measuring-gauge range by adding new pipes

• new or modified intonation

• installing a bell system into the tower

• new capture combination system with 64 combinations on 32 storage areas = 2048 combinations

The organ in the Saardom church in Dillingen meanwhile has been well established with many concert series and enjoys a high position in the Saarland organ world.
